question:Hello Doctor, My son 4 months old Boy effected with Unprovoked seizure for thrice. Day1--its been 2 episodes with 3 hours gap & on the 3 day 1 episode. Doctor suggested us to go ahead with gardinal 20 mg. Reports are normal. We are worried when it will occur & what are the preventive measures to be taken......Please suggest
answer:Hi,I guess his reports including sugar, calcium, sodium and EEG and MRI (brain) were normal. Also we need more details like any trouble during pregnancy and newborn period and similar illness in family. If all these are normal, you need not worry now. Just continue gardinal as your doctor advised. We can't be sure that it will not recur. If recurring we may need up-gradation of drugs and few more investigations including repeat EEG (electro encephalogram) at a later stage. Also, keep a close watch on his developmental milestones. If you feel he is not gaining milestones as expected, get back to your doctor for more detailed evaluation.Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. question:Hi, I had a foot of my colon removed 5 years ago and in the last two days I have had pain in the lower left abdominal , hard to pass gas , don't want to eat, stools are loose and today green. Now I did take a Senokat and a muscle relaxant to sleep through the pain. I also had a low grade fever last night at work. 37.8 . Could this mean a return of diverticular disease, ( that is why I had a partial removal of my colon)..??
answer:Hi ! Yes, it could be a recurrence of possibly previously existing diverticular disease of the remaining part of colon. It could also be just a food poisoning, if you are not careful on your diet. With the known past history of diverticular disease, I would suggest you not to neglect, and show yourself to your treating doctor/surgeon at the earliest possible if the symptoms persist or increase.Wishing you an early recovery.
question:My 5 month old son started getting a rash on his neck about 2 weeks ago, only a few spots evident but over the last 2 weeks, its spread all over the neck and under his arms. Its ike spots that look quite sore , they re raised but dont appear to offer hm discomfort.
answer:Hi,Most likely it will be miliaria- a rash developing commonly in summer from blockage of sweat glands. It appears as minute papules over an erythematous base. Nothing other than frequent wetting with cold water (not ice cold) is needed. For some patients with itching, calamine lotion and occasionally antihistaminic drug will ofter discomfort. It is better to avoid talcum powder as it can exacerbate the situation.Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
question:Hi, my daughter who is 1 yr and 9 months cries while passing stools. she had this problem 2 months back. we did her sonography and barium test but everything was normal. she was ok for 1 month but she has developed the same condition again.the paediatrician has suggested evict and cremaffin. but she is not responding. even tried suppository but that gives only temporary relief. please suggest
answer:Hi,This probably from constipation, which causes too tight stools that causes pain on passing. That is why she is getting temporary relief with suppository. In such recurrent cases, I used to order thyroid function test and blood calcium level, as their abnormalities can cause constipation; if theses comes normal, I used to give laxatives like cremaffin, sodium picosulfate and lactulose, needing combination in some severe cases. Most of the times we will be able to control, and will try to taper and stop after 3 months. you can discuss with your doctor. Meanwhile, give her fibre rich items like fruits, vegetables (orange, grapes, jack fruit, sweet potato, raw wheat, oats - are all fibre rich) and plenty of water. Some children has the habit of bowel holding- which can worsen the situation and to be avoided.Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. question:Hello My two year old kid is having fever since last three days. Doctor told to give MeftalP for two days , but as the fever did not come on second day, i stopped giving it. Should i give this medicine as per prescription for two days even the fever has not come again? As the fever has again came today. He also has chest congestion. for chest congestion we are doing nebulisation. Pls suggest.
answer:Hi,Meftal we can give on an SOS basis also (ie. as and when required). But if the fever is not coming down after 72 hours, I recommend you to get back to doctor, as we may need an antibiotic too incase there is crepitations in chest (suggesting sputum) or other signs of bacterial infection. Meanwhile, you can continue nebulisation.Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician

answer:Hi,From what you described, he is having fever, red bumps on legs, along with erythema ans swelling - all these suggest that he is having a skin infection that is now progressing to cellulitis. Kindly take him to doctor without delay as this need immediate treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Meanwhile give him paracetamol for pain relief and keep the affected limb elevated.Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
