question:Hello doctor my baby is 4 month older n he is very crying in nature sometimes all the day he was crying...I was concerned to many doctor n done his regular checkup every month bt doctor said baby is fine...n he is passing his stool once in week...what should I do for him..plz suggest some fruitful remedy to me

answer:Hi, This is called evening colic and is quite common in this age group. This happens when the baby sucks at the breast very fast and in eagerness to drink milk will gulp in air too. Unless the air comes out like burping or flatus this discomfort will be there and next time check if the baby is sucking too fast and gulping in air too. You will be more convinced. Usually, I don't advice any medicines for this as they give only temporary relief. The two best ways to relieve this distress is - 1. Do not put the baby in lying position after feeding till the baby burps out the swallowed air. 2. If still crying - put the baby in prone position and keep patting the back gently so that the baby passes off the flatus and gets relieved. Babies of this age may pass motion 10 days once or 10 times a day also. If the baby is active and feeding well, don't worry. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. question:My 2 12 year old daughter bounced the back of head off the wall and cried for a min then was fine and playing, then it happened again, she screamed for a min or two then fell asleep, I ve been trying to wak her up but she won t open her eyes but she does respond. Does she have a concussion? Should I keep trying to wake her up? Does we need to go to the hospital?

answer:Hello,I understand your concern. Head injuries in children are very common and sometimes they can lead to serious consequences. While not every head injury is necessarily cause for concern, when it comes to children, it is always better to be on the safe side. Head traumas followed by loss of consciousness and, possibly vomiting afterwards are a definitive cause for concern and always yields medical attention. It is possible that your daughter is just sleepy because she is tired from all that jumping, however is she has been asleep for longer than three hours than there is something going on and you should seek medical help while trying to wake her up. In any case, being watchful for the next 48 hours after a fall or head trauma is always the sensible thing to do.Wishing you all the best

question:My 11-year-old granddaughter hit her head on the corner of a wall about 3 days ago. It hurt at the time but seemed to go away. That night, she had a horrendous headache at the front of her head. The pain has moved around over the past 3 days, to the side of her head, in the temple area, then today to further back on her head. She came home from school today after playing basketball and feeling in a lot of pain. The teacher sent her home. I have a voice mail into her family doctor but am concerned that maybe she has a concussion or something more serious and I need some direction. Thanks.

answer:Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.Since there has been no notion of loss of consciousness and no brain function has been affected, I feel concussion may be eliminated. However, some signs and symptoms of concussion may include: Headache or a feeling of pressure in the head, Temporary loss of consciousness, confusion or feeling as if in a fog, amnesia surrounding the traumatic event, dizziness or "seeing stars," ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, slurred speech, and Delayed response to questions. She does not present with most of these symptoms. I will suggest you give her a pain drug like Paracetamol and observe. If symptoms persist, you see the doctor for evaluation.Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.Regards,Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso

question:Hi, I was in the kitchen and my 20 month old climbed up and stood on the couch ottoman. Our four year old then accidentally knocked him off. I didn t see it but I heard his head Hit the hardwood floor which has a concrete slab underneath. He cried for a few minutes but after that I got him to calm down. Pupils look ok. No vomiting. Playing fine now. Think he s ok? Should I just check on him a few times before I go to bed?

answer:madam you have checked pupils ..great ..now i will try to explain what makes diagnosis of head injury ..1 ..person becomes unconscious even one minute consciousness is serious .2.vomitting nausea 3 vertigo 4.convulsions fits 5 bleeding from nose or ears 6 person becomes drowsy or start behaving abnormally 7 severe headache ..as a matter of fact if there is any symptom after head injury it should be taken serously ...usually i keep patient under strict observation for 24 hours ...and if anything happens please rush to emergency .....concussions is a type of head injury where brain is shaken and person becomes unconscious for a small time

question:My GF s daughter (10 years old) is having all these symptoms for the last 3 weeks and we think it s due to a fall. She hit her head at school and still has some tenderness (3 weeks later). Her handwriting is getting worse, she has been making these sort of spastic movements (similar to someone on drugs), she is not thinking clearly (apparently couldn t get her pants on this morning because she was only using one of her hands while the other fist was closed. She didn t grasp the concept of using both hands and gave up. Her school work has dropped off drastically and she was previously a good student. Simple projects that would take her 10 mins previously now take 2 hours. We re afraid she might have some sort of swelling on the brain or something? Do these symptoms go along with some head injury? For the record - her mother is taking her to Urgent care right now.

answer:all of the symptoms you described are not definitely determine head injury, on my opinion she must ambulatory admitted by a psychiatrist.
